What is spinal cord injury and how can Back-Up help?

Approximately three people every day have an accident or injury that results in permanent paralysis through damage to the spinal cord.  There is no cure. Paralysis is permanent.

Over 40,000 people in the UK have a spinal cord injury (SCI), the majority of whom use a wheelchair. However, in cases where the injury is incomplete it may be possible to walk. The Back-Up Trust's services are for everyone affected by spinal cord injury, including families and friends.

Back-Up is a small, dynamic and professional charity that runs three distinct services: wheelchair skills, mentoring and rehabilitative activity or cultural courses. These services are peer-led and encourage independence, self-confidence and motivation following a life changing injury.
